Advanced First Aid AdFA
Course Outline
First aid training provides simple advice on how to manage emergency situations and explain first aid techniques and treatments for the most commonly encountered illnesses and injuries.
This course provides participants with enhanced first aid skills and knowledge to enable them to provide an advanced first aid response. It covers workers who provide response care in line with Australian Resuscitation Council Guidelines.
Course Subjects
- Infection control and hygiene in first aid procedures
- DRSABCD and resuscitation review
- Automated External Defibrillation (AED) use, safety and maintenance
- Use of the resuscitators and oxygen delivery systems
- Administration of oxygen and maintenance of oxygen equipment
- Suction equipment and techniques
- Medications, pain management and analgesic drug administration
- Trauma management
- Basic anatomy (body systems)
- Clinical assessment and documentation
- Emotionally disturbed casualties
- Working with intoxicated patients
- Environmental emergencies
- Burns, poisoning
- Post incident management
Course Prerequisites
HLTFA301B Apply first aid or equivalent obtained within the last 3 years.
Course Assessment
Observation and practical assessment, written project work, scenarios and problem solving.
