Course Outline

This one day course enables people with an existing first aid qualification, that is less than 3 years old, to update their knowledge and skills and revise first aid procedures. Participants will be updated on changes since their previous first aid course.

A first aid course is invaluable when you consider that it could make the difference to someone’s life or death. The time and money it costs to complete a first aid course is priceless.

First aid training provides simple advice on how to manage emergency situations and explains first aid techniques and treatments for the most commonly encountered illnesses and injuries.

Accidents happen without warning but with first aid training and first aid supplies you will be able to care for a stranger, family member or close friend who requires assistance.

Course Subjects

  • Assess an emergency situation
  • DRSABCD action plan & recovery position
  • Causes and management of the unconscious patient
  • Perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Minor wounds & apply infection control procedures
  • Manage external bleeding & shock
  • Burns
  • Eye injuries & soft tissue injuries
  • Head, chest and abdominal injuries
  • Manage a casualty suffering extremes of temperature
  • Venomous bites & stings and allergic reactions
  • Spinal injuries & fractures

Course Prerequisites

A current HLTFA311A Apply first aid or HLTAID003 Provide first aid Statement of Attainment is a prerequisite for this course and must be sighted prior to enrolment. Current industry standard is for this course to be updated every 3 years with the CPR component being updated every 12 months.

Unit of Competency

Participants who successfully complete all components of the course will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the HLTAID003 Provide first aid, HLTAID002 Provide basic emergency life support and HLTAID001 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation units of competency.

These units of competency describe the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support and management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance.

Course Assessment

Eagle Training Services uses scenarios to demonstrate how to assess the scene of an accident and how to assess the casualty to determine if their condition is life-threatening. In these mock situations you are required to use the knowledge you have learnt and administer immediate first aid to help the casualty survive.
