Course Outline


This course is for people who are required to carry a Category ‘H’ handgun as part of their employment. This course is designed for people with no previous firearms experience or for those who only require a refresher.

Course Subjects

The course includes the following subjects:

  • Firearms Safety
  • Firearm Functions
  • Semi-automatic Pistols
  • Weapon Maintenance
  • Fundamentals of Shooting

Unit of Competency


Upon successful completion of the course you will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the CPPSEC3116 Carry, operate and maintain semi-automatic pistols for security purposes unit of competency.

Course Assessment


The course consists of both theory and practical assessments.

Course Delivery and Duration


Classes are conducted over 1.5 days. Day 1 from 8.30am to 4pm and day 2 from 8.30am to 12.30pm. All students are required to be present 15 minutes before course commencement time. Late arrivals may be refused from the course as a failure to attend.
Training occurs at Eagle Training Services training facilities located in Darwin and Alice Springs.
Students are supported through the provision of high quality learning materials and resources.

Course Fees


$550 per student. Payment in full or provision of a purchase order is required to secure a place on a course. The course fee is fully refundable only if the course is cancelled or you cancel with at least 3 business days notice. This price includes all study manuals and materials as well as the supply of ammunition for practical exercises and assessments, safety glasses and ear plugs if required.

Confirmation of Enrolment


Positions are limited so only confirmed enrolments will be able to attend.

For cancellations/refunds a minimum of 3 business days notice must be provided to Eagle Training Services prior to the commencement of the scheduled course to enable reallocation of your place to another participant, otherwise the full course fee will be payable.

Replacements are allowed provided they have Eagle Training Services approval before the start of training and any course prerequisites are met.

What You Need To Bring

  • Photo identification
  • Unique Student Identifier (USI)
  • Must wear enclosed footwear
  • Sun-safe clothing recommended for outside activities
  • A sturdy belt in order to attach a holster
  • A peaked cap - no wide brimmed hats
  • Eye protection - sunglasses or safety glasses
  • Ear protection - ear muffs or plugs

Welfare and Support Services


Eagle Training Services provides welfare and support services within its professional capacity. Clients should identify existing needs prior to enrolment so that appropriate arrangements can be made. Where additional support is required, the client will be referred to a specialist agency to access appropriate support. Eagle Training Services has a documented policy regarding access and equity.
