Course Outline

This entry-level course is designed for people who want to learn the key elements of first aid. It will arm you with the life saving skills that you need to perform in an emergency situation in those vital minutes before the ambulance arrives.

This course is aimed at students who are required to achieve only a basic level of first aid training as part of their job, or who would like to learn basic first aid without the need to complete the more intensive first aid program.

This training is suitable for any person 14 years and above; students under 18 years of age must provide written permission from their parent or guardian.

Course Subjects

  • Assess an emergency situation and calling for assistance
  • Legal issues and infection control
  • DRSABCD action plan
  • CPR
  • Bleeding, wounds and shock
  • Medical conditions: chest pain, asthma, choking and anaphylaxis

Course Prerequisites

There are no restrictions on entry to this course however students are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instructions.

Unit of Competency

Participants who successfully complete all components of the course will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the HLTAID010 Provide basic emergency life support unit of competency.

Course Assessment

Practical assessment with group interaction.

Participants must demonstrate competency during a series of practical skills evaluation and verbal assessments, including observation, questioning, scenarios - problem solving.

Course Delivery & Duration

Classes commence at 8:30am and finish at 4:00pm. All students are required to be present 15 minutes before course commencement time. Late arrivals may be refused from the course as a failure to attend. Training occurs at Eagle Training Services training facilities located in Darwin & Alice Springs. Participants undertake the course in comfortable, air-conditioned classrooms with the latest IT and audiovisual capabilities. Students are supported through the provision of high quality learning materials and resources.

Metro and remote onsite delivery is also available if you have a suitable venue.

Confirmation of Enrolment

Payment in full or provision of a purchase order is required to secure a course.

For cancellations/refunds a minimum of 3 business days notice must be provided to Eagle Training Services prior to the commencement of the scheduled course to enable re-allocation of your place to another participant, otherwise the full course fee will be payable. Replacements are allowed provided they have Eagle Training Services approval before the start of training and course prerequisites are met.

Welfare and Support Services

Eagle Training Services provides welfare and support services within its professional capacity. Clients should identify existing needs prior to enrolment so that appropriate arrangements are made. Where additional support is required, the client will be referred to a specialist agency to access appropriate support. Eagle Training Services has a documented policy regarding access and equity.

Clothing Requirements

It is recommended that students do not wear skirts or dresses due to the nature of the practical exercises conducted throughout the training.
