Course Outline
The objective of this course is to provide the knowledge and skills to safely operate and work in atmospheres that may have a harmful level of contaminants or do not have a safe oxygen level. The Breathing Apparatus training course is designed for employees who may be required to utilise breathing apparatus equipment for the purpose of accessing hazardous locations including confined spaces or performing work and maintenance in contaminated atmospheres. Participants will wear breathing apparatus and be taught appropriate operating procedures.
Participants who attend this course will observe a high emphasis on safety and emergency procedures. This course can be tailored to your specific type of breathing apparatus i.e. escape type or self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) and is taught by experienced personnel. It is a recommendation under Australian Standards that breathing apparatus users complete a refresher training course annually.

Course Prerequisites
There are no restrictions on entry to this course however students are required to have sufficient numeracy and literacy skills to read and comprehend instruction(s).
Unit of Competency
Participants who successfully complete all components of the course will be issued a Statement of Attainment for the MSMWHS216 Operate breathing apparatus unit of competency.
Course Assessment
Written & practical assessment. Practical exercises will be tailored to your specific workplace if training is delivered onsite.
Course Delivery & Duration
Classes commence at 8:30am and finish at 4:00pm. All students are required to be present 15 minutes before course commencement time. Late arrivals may be refused from the course as a failure to attend. Training occurs at Eagle Training Services training facilities located in Darwin & Alice Springs. Participants undertake the course in comfortable, air-conditioned classrooms with the latest IT and audiovisual capabilities. Students are supported through the provision of high quality learning materials and resources.
Course Fees
$360 per student. A $100 deposit is required upon enrolment to secure a course placement. The remaining course fee is to be paid in full prior to course finish. Course fee is fully refundable only if the course is cancelled. This price includes all study manuals and materials.
Confirmation of Enrolment
A student’s position on the course will be confirmed upon the payment of a course deposit fee or the provision of an authorised purchase order. Positions are limited so confirmed enrolments only will be able to attend.
For cancellations/refunds a minimum of 3 business days notice must be provided to Eagle Training Services prior to the commencement of the scheduled course to enable re-allocation of your place to another participant, otherwise the full course fee will be payable. Replacements are allowed provided they have Eagle Training Services approval before the start of training and course prerequisites are met.
Welfare and Support Services
Eagle Training Services provides welfare and support services within its professional capacity. Clients should identify existing needs prior to enrolment so that appropriate arrangements are made. Where additional support is required, the client will be referred to a specialist agency to access appropriate support. Eagle Training Services has a documented policy regarding access and equity.
Please Note
There are certain medical conditions (heart disease, asthma etc) which may make certain persons unsuitable for operating breathing apparatus. Refer to AS/NZS1715:1994 or contact Eagle Training Services for more information.
